Aviation Paintings
Aviation has played a big part in Doug's life and that of his family, and it is his favorite subject for painting. His father flew T-34s, T-28s, T-33s, F-86s, B-47s and B-52s in the Air Force. Then he flew 707s, 727s and DC-9s with TWA before retiring. His younger sister had private time and also served as a C-130 mechanic, WC-130 flight engineer and C-130 instructor flight engineer in the Air Force. Doug had his private license flying Cessna 152s and 172s, Piper Cherokee 140s and 180s, and Tomahawks before entering the Air Force, where he also flew T-37s, flew and instructed in T-38s and flew C-130s. His brother-in-law was even retired Air Force, a general aviation A&P, a C-141 mechanic and a private pilot.
Doug has drawn all of his life, mostly aircraft, before beginning to paint in 2002. He especially likes to re-create scenes from his family's experiences.
